Steven Nichols

Head of ESG Capital Markets, Americas

Steven Nichols

Steven Nichols is head of ESG Capital Markets, Americas for BofA Securities, the institutional broker dealer business of Bank of America. In this role, he is responsible for supporting the firm’s leading equity and debt capital markets franchises by providing clients with advice on how to better target a rapidly expanding ESG-focused investor base.

Nichols guided issuers through over $40 billion in ESG-themed capital raises in 2020 alone – including Bank of America’s Equality Progress Sustainability Bond, and the first green convertible bond in the U.S. Other first of a kind transactions include the first industrial green bond, the first in the mining sector, and the first by a steel producer. In addition, he is a voting member of the ICMA Green and Social Bond Principles Executive Committee, where he represents Bank of America’s interests on the board that sets the standards for the global ESG-themed capital markets.

Prior to joining Bank of America, Nichols spent over 10 years in Southern Company’s Treasury, where he was a pioneer in the corporate green bond market. He executed $3.5 billion in green bonds, among the first ever by a US corporate issuer.

Nichols holds a Bachelor of Science in finance from Georgia Tech and a Master of Business Administration from Chicago Booth.
